[NEWS] Ghostly Welcomes Starchild & The New Romantic

We are thrilled to announce the addition of Bryndon Cook, who records as Starchild & The New Romantic, to the Ghostly roster. Starchild is already a seasoned artist and performer—he’s collaborated with Patrick Wimberly of Chairlift and Dev Hynes of Blood Orange, and has toured with Kindness and as a member of Solange Knowles’ band. You can hear all of that in his music. His songs move from laid-back, ‘70s-style funk ballads to woozy R&B to crackling dance music that recalls Ready For the World. The unifying thread in all of them is Starchild’s voice—sweet, emotional, lithe and charismatic.

Describing his songs as “Champion Music for the Heartbroken,” Starchild has adopted the work methods of one of his heroes, Prince, writing and playing every note, and demonstrating a mastery of a host of genres and sounds. He’s absorbed a host of artists—“Everyone from Duke Ellington and Marvin Gaye to Mya, Dru Hill and D’Angelo” is how he puts it—but combines them to create something that is uniquely his own. You can hear all of that at work in “All My Lovers,” the first single from the Crucial EP, arriving in early 2016.
